Tuesday Program: LGBTQ - Gender Identities, Sexualities and Intersectional Oppressions

Event Date: Tuesday, June 19, 2018
Event Time: 11:00 am

Esmé Rodríguez, Guest Speaker

In today's world, conversations surrounding topics of Gender and Sexuality are quite prevalent and they influence the ways in which we write policy and laws to protect all people. This presentation is designed to provide an overview of vocabulary and information regarding LGBTQ identities. We will question and reconfigure our current, binary, US cultural framework of assigned sex at birth. This will lead to a deeper discussion around topics of gender identity, sexual orientation, and intersectional identities. The second part of the presentation is focused on LGBTQ youth and the creation of better practices to keep our communities and schools safe for all youth.

Esmé Rodríguez, MA, PhD (ABD) has a Master’s Degree from Boston College and they studied their PhD (ABD) at the University of Minnesota. Esmé is currently the School Equity Director for OutFront Minnesota.
