Roma Calatayud-Stocks, Guest Speaker

“Some of the Greatest Conductors in Modern History Come to Life in a new historical novel, A Symphony of Rivals, set in Europe in the years leading up to World War II.” Woman’s Club Member Roma Calatayud-Stocks will discuss her newly released historical novel A Symphony of Rivals. The presentation will focus on Beethoven’s legacy, the contributions of women composers and conductors during this era in history, the role of art in the public arena, and how music serves as a creative and emotional expression for people living during challenging times.

Award-winning novelist and composer Roma Calatayud-Stocks holds a bachelor and master degrees in Music and Psychology from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and postgraduate studies in creative writing from the University of St. Thomas. Calatayud-Stocks is the author of two historical novels A Song in My Heart and A Symphony of Rivals. She’s currently working on the third book of her trilogy, An Ode to Joy. In line with her life passion and commitment to bring forth the contributions of all cultures through the arts, Calatayud-Stocks’ narratives, set to music, provide a window to locations across the world while also addressing poignant issues, politics of the era, and history. The Tuesday Program is a Club tradition to educate, inspire and entertain our Members and guests. Coffee and tea are served at 10:30 am in the Lounge, followed by a Guest Speaker in the Ballroom at 11:00 am and lunch in the Dining Room at 12:00 pm. The cost for lunch is $18.00 plus tax and service charge ($23.28, inclusive of tax and service). Reservations are not necessary.
