Great Decisions - Turkey: A Challenge for US Foreign Policy

Event Date: Wednesday, August 15, 2018
Event Time: 5:00 pm

Henry Berman, Guest Speaker

Henry Berman, one of our favorite presenters, has a long-time interest in the Middle East and travels there regularly. He has previously spoken on the Syrian refugee crisis, Egypt, and the Arab Spring. He is a retired business man who worked at Ecolab, a global company based in St. Paul.

Turkey, a NATO ally, and once a firm friend of the US, presents a daunting foreign policy challenge for President Trump. Following an unsuccessful coup attempt by the military in July 2016, President Tayyip Erdogan’s autocratic trend took a sharp turn for the worse. Even more important than Turkey’s position as a NATO ally is what it represents as the most institutionally westernized Muslim country in the world.

This is a free program for Members and their nonmember guests only.
We ask Members to register and make their dinner reservation by Tuesday, August 14.
