Tuesday Programs: Women for McCarthy

Event Date: Tuesday, May 7, 2019
Event Time: 11:00 am

Guest Speaker: Tim Johnson

In 1958, Abigail McCarthy organized a political group, Women for McCarthy, in support of her husband's U.S. Senate race. A decade later, this organization–national in scope–energized Eugene McCarthy's presidential campaign. This presentation explores the role of women during this moment in American history.

Tim Johnson is Curator of Special Collections & Rare Books and the E.W. McDiarmid Curator of the Sherlock Holmes Collections for the University of Minnesota Libraries. In these capacities he oversees the University Libraries' main rare books and more than 150 special collections, including the world's largest gathering of material related to that most famous consulting detective, Sherlock Holmes.
